It is possible to have more than one issue addressed during a single rhinoplasty surgery.

Is Liquid Rhinoplasty Effective?

A liquid rhinoplasty has many benefits and can be a good alternative if you’re not ready for a surgical rhinoplasty. Also known as non-surgical rhinoplasty, this is an effective procedure that can sometimes give similar results to that of traditional surgical rhinoplasty. However, it’s important to know that it cannot correct every issue, is only temporary, and may not be an option for everyone.

Using Hyaluronic Acid fillers, which are composed of a synthetic version of a naturally occurring substance in the body, Dr. Ort can alter your nasal contour and overall appearance of the nose. This is performed by administering a series of injections where the hyaluronic acid filler is sculpted and layered to achieve the desired look. The benefit is that you’ll leave your appointment with your new nose, and a bit of temporary swelling.

Your liquid rhinoplasty can last 1-2 years with the use of Hyaluronic Acid fillers. If you are considering a surgical rhinoplasty, a liquid rhinoplasty may also allow you to ‘test drive’ your new nose without surgical recovery or permanent commitment. During your consultation with Dr. Ort, she’ll be able to determine if a liquid rhinoplasty is a good option for you and whether you would be a good candidate for it. For some, a non-surgical approach may not be appropriate, suitable, or adequate to correct every issue with your nose.

There are several benefits to be had from precisely performed non-surgical rhinoplasty in Bellevue’s premier plastic surgery destination. However, for some patients, plastic surgery may not be the best option. Thankfully, there are still excellent options available for those who want to alter or enhance their appearance. Non-surgical rhinoplasty is not without its risks, and should only be performed by a qualified medical provider who has an intimate understanding of facial anatomy, like Dr. Ort. She is expertly trained and board-certified to perform facial procedures, from non-surgical fillers to extensive and complex surgical rhinoplasty.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is generally available to those who want to change the current shape or size of their nose. As the nose is a focal part of the face, it can be very distressing for patients to live with a nose that is too large, too small, or otherwise disproportionate to their facial structure. For patients in Bellevue and Seattle rhinoplasty can also help patients who have endured an injury or struggle with a nasal defect.

It’s important to remember that not all patients are exactly the same, and their needs may vary based on their facial structure and overall predispositions. For example, Asian Plastic Surgery addresses common aesthetic concerns in regards to unique Asian facial structure and it should be performed by a plastic surgeon with this specialized experience. Dr. Ort can help deliver your customized procedure to ensure you get the best surgical approach for your individual needs.

During your consultation with Dr. Ort, she will perform a thorough examination of your nose. She’ll offer her professional recommendation, discuss risks, benefits, and alternatives. You’ll be given the opportunity to address your concerns, and have all of your questions answered, in order to come up with a customized plan that addresses your aesthetic needs while keeping your utmost safety in mind.

Preparation for Rhinoplasty

First, you will have a thorough examination to determine if you are healthy enough for a rhinoplasty. In addition, Dr. Ort will also assure you that you are mentally prepared for undergoing nasal surgery, and the subsequent recovery. An important part of the evaluation may include X-rays or a CT scan of your face so that Dr. Ort can carefully plan the surgery if it involves the nasal bones.

You may also require an additional assessment of the inside of your nose, to assure function and ensure that there are no breathing abnormalities. If they exist, it is usually possible to address all of these in a single rhinoplasty procedure.

What Is the Surgical Process?

Depending on your individualized rhinoplasty plan, the procedure will be done either with you completely asleep or completely awake with numbing medication. No matter what, the surgery can take a few hours to complete. Depending on the type of nose and the degree of repair, Dr. Ort can perform a “closed” rhinoplasty or an “open” rhinoplasty.

A closed rhinoplasty approach involves making incisions inside the nose so that you won’t have any visible scars. Open nasal surgery is used to repair more significant problems and requires incisions inside the nose and along the middle underside part of the nose. Keeping in mind the plastic surgery aesthetic, these scars are strategically placed, and the scars intended to heal as imperceptibly as possible. During your surgery, the cartilage in the nose may also be trimmed, refined, and sutured to achieve the desired nose shape. Nasal bones may also be shaved down or reshaped if necessary.

Recovery from Rhinoplasty

You will likely return home on the same day as your procedure but will require several days for recovery at home. Dr. Ort will place supportive splints on your nose, and your nostrils may be packed with absorbent materials. During your recovery, it is important to follow Dr. Ort’s guidelines in order to heal well and to have the best possible outcome.

Dr. Ort will provide you with detailed instructions on how to care for your nose during the recovery time. It is important to note that, while you will see some results immediately, it could take up to one year to see the final results from your nose surgery. There will be some swelling and bruising for the first few weeks following treatment, but this should resolve in a short period of time. The nasal splint will likely be removed one week after the surgery.

Rhinoplasty FAQ

No two noses are alike, and therefore, there is no standard rhinoplasty. The cost of your procedure is determined by the complexity of your case, combined with the cosmetic changes you wish to make. In some cases, parts of the reconstruction may be considered medically necessary, and may be covered by insurance. In addition, there may be additional costs if you wish to combine your rhinoplasty with other additional surgeries. Combining surgeries is much more cost effective, limits the number of times you will require an anesthetic, and allows you to need only one recovery time.

To determine the type of rhinoplasty will achieve your aesthetic goals, or whether your rhinoplasty can be combined with other surgeries, such as a blepharoplasty, chin augmentation, or cheek implants, you’ll have a full and thorough consultation with Dr. Ort. After determining your needs, you’ll be given a customized quote, specific to your surgical plan. This will include both anesthesia and operating room costs, plus any other additional costs, so that there are no surprises.

If you are planning a liquid rhinoplasty, also called and non-surgical rhinoplasty, the costs will be determined by how many syringes of hyaluronic acid filler is required to achieve your aesthetic changes. Since there is a significantly shorter recovery with a liquid rhinoplasty, you will leave the office with immediate changes you wish to see.

For a non-surgical rhinoplasty, or liquid rhinoplasty, without touch ups, you can expect the results to last for approximately 1-2 years. After this time, the body will begin to gradually and harmlessly reabsorb the hyaluronic acid filler. You can always choose to come back for additional placement of filler, or opt to have a surgical rhinoplasty.

For a surgical rhinoplasty, the results of surgery are permanent. After some initial bruising and swelling, it may take over a year for complete healing. During this time, the nose will go through several stages of healing, before ultimately revealing its final result.

Unless there is a traumatic injury, such as a nasal fracture, the youngest age to perform a rhinoplasty is after all skeletal growth is complete. For women, this is usually around age 16-17; for men, this is at 19-21. Once adult growing is complete, it is never too late to change the quality of your breathing or the appearance of your nose.

There are patients in their 20s and 30s who obtain both functional and cosmetic rhinoplasties, as well as those in their 60s and 70s. As we age, there may be issues that arise that merit surgical correction, such as a worsening septal deviation, or obstruction of a nasal passage. Dr. Ort is highly specialized to treat a wide variety of these issues, as well as all of your aesthetic needs.

The first few days after surgery are the most uncomfortable. This will be improved with sleeping in an elevated position, cool clothes to the face, rest, and pain medication. After this period, there will be visible bruising and swelling 1-2 weeks.

Most patients try to avoid going back to work during this time, even if just to avoid answering any questions from curious or concerned friends and colleagues. Once all this dissipates, the remainder of the 1+ year of recovery will be resolution of swelling of the face and inside the nose, which is mainly only noticeable to you and very close family, eventually leading to the final and beautiful outcome.

After the procedure, you will leave wearing a nasal splint over the bridge of your nose, which will stay in place for approximately 1 week. In some cases, you will require splinting inside the nose, which will be comfortably removed by Dr. Ort several days after your surgery. Depending on the type of rhinoplasty you’ve had, and the location of the incisions, you may have sutures that will need to be removed 1 week post surgery.

Most patients experience under eye bruising and facial swelling after surgery. This generally resolves in 1-2 weeks, and is an expected part of surgical recovery.

Depending on what type of surgery you’ve had, your friends or family may only notice an improved or changed appearance to your face, but may not exactly be able to pinpoint what’s different. This is often the mark of a highly skilled surgeon. Some rhinoplasties involve only microscopic changes, but result in tremendous improvement. Because recovery can be over 1 year, changes are very gradual, allowing for even the most dramatic of changes to go virtually unnoticed, unless you choose to share with others.

Dr. Ort, a double board certified, fellowship trained facial surgeon who specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive rhinoplasty, is highly committed to making you look your best and most natural. To find out how she can help, call or go online to schedule your consultation.
